Important Information
- This database is ONLY FOR RFACTOR. Until told otherwise, tracks/cars/mods for other sims are NOT permitted to be listed. Depending on load and how everyone behaves, there may come a time when the database will include other sims, but a) don't count on it, and b) don't ask for it.
- This site merely lists tracks and cars that are under development (or finished, of course). This site does NOT host the track downloads, and is NOT a repository for "breaking news" concerning your tracks or cars. There is a place in the table for posting web site URL's. If you want folks to be able to keep up to date in a detailed fashion and/or to download your track or car, post a URL in the COMMENTS column.
- You only need to register if you're building a track. If you're just an end-user (like me), you do NOT need to register to see the track/car/mod lists.
- If you register as a developer, you will need to provide an email address. This will NOT be shared with anyone, and is only required so that you can request a forgotten password via email.
- If you register as a developer, you are automatically authenticated, and you can immediately begin adding track items. DO NOT list a track unless you are actually working on it. If I think it's necessary, I will limit everyone to having just one track shown as under construction. Finished tracks will be shown in a separate list, and will not be as editable as tracks under construction.
- As long as everyone keeps it real and doesn't try to exploit my generosity (maintaining the db and website, and providing web space for it at my own expense), the site will remain up. However, if people start screwing around, the site will IMMEDIATELY go away, without so much as a backward glance.
You may be asking yourself why I'm such a hard-ass on this. Here's the answer - I'm paying for the drive space and bandwidth, and the domain hosts other pages besides this one. If drive space and/or bandwidth becomes an issue because people are screwing around, I have to pay more. If anyone has any questions or comments at this point, feel free to fire away. (I am not in a state of mind where this stuff isn't negotiable, as long as everyone stays civil about it). My tone may sound a bit brusque, but that's only because I don't believe in dancing around issues.
Who Can Post A Track (or Car)
There are currently no restrictions concerning who may post a submission, and I'd appreciate it if everyone kept it real. The only people that should be posting tracks or cars are those who fully intend to deliver a finished product. If things start to get out of hand with bogus postings, this site will be history.
Using this list is absolutely free.
Endorsements
There are none. rFactor didn't ask me to do this, and I didn't tell them I was going to. The folks at The Pits started a forum for announcements from track makers, but I figured that forum would become a real burden to search after a while. I suggested that a list should be created and here we are.
The site's credibility is entirely dependent upon the people that post tracks in the list.
Link To This Site
I recommend that track and car makers put a link to this site on their track/car development site so that people can easily find other tracks/cars that have been made, or are being made for rFactor.
About This Site
- I'm not going to try to fool anyone into thinking I'm a web development deity (I much prefer writing regular applications usng C++). I'm a virgin (complete with bleeding and pain) when it comes to anything more complex on a web page than frames and regular HTML. This site uses a mix of HTML, CSS, PHP, and JavaScript, is a highly complex system, and has caused me to re-think the "real-programmer" status of web developers. People that do this for living are every bit as much of a programmer as the guys like me who do regular desktop applications with C++.
- This site is best viewed at 1280x1024 or higher. If your browser doesn't render something here properly, let me know, or better yet, switch to the latest version of FireFox, because that's the browser on which I perform all of the testing for this site.
- In order to fully realize the capabilities of this website, you must have cookies and javascript enabled. You can rest assured that this is merely to make the site work better for you and that I have no nefarious plan to gather all of your pesonal data and sell it to the highest bidder. Most modern broswers allow you to enable these items on a site-by-site basis,so you have no real justification for whining about it. If you refuse to have cookies and/or javascript turned on, I have no sympathy for you, have a nice day, and thanks for playing our game.
- If enough people request it, I'll find out how to do RSS feeds so you can get immediate announcements of changes to the lists.
